Ellyson's birthday was Thursday (I started a post about it and need to finish ...) but her party was today. She wanted a Wizard of Oz theme. In case you were wondering, there are no Wizard of Oz party-in-a-box kits at your local party store. So this was a very creative party.

The children played a homemade game of Wizard of Oz headbands. I used our headbands from our Disney Headbandz game, and placed Wizard of Oz stickers (from Amazon) on cardstock. Only Ellyson and Carter know the movie well enough to do well at this game, but the adults all helped the kids.
Next, the kids created their own Wizard of Oz themed Find It jars. I separated the sets of items for each of the kids in advance, and also had the jars full of colored rice. (I made my own colored rice. I used about five pounds - just a little less than 12 cups. I put two cups of rice in a Ziploc bag, added a splash of white vinegar and about a dozen drops of food coloring. I baked it in the oven at 200 degrees for about 20 minutes, stirring every 5 minutes, until the colors were set.)
I printed a list of the items, but also printed wallet-sized photos of the items and glued them to the back of the lists, since most of the attendees can't read.

Finally, the kids took whacks at an "Over the Rainbow" pinata. Just like last year, none of the kids opened up the pinata. They did knock it off the hanger, so I eventually ripped it open to spill the contents.
