Soccer Saturday, Week 2

Another week of soccer games! And guess what? Carter scored a goal! Hooray! He spent his entire first season playing goalie, and spent half his second season playing goalie as well. He still seems to favor defense, and tends to be timid with ball-handling, but he scored on Saturday!

Soccer Saturdays are brutal. With three games each week ... ugh. It's exhausting. With working Monday through Friday, and spending most of Saturday at the soccer field, I end up spending all day Sunday, cleaning (including six of our eight weekly loads of laundry) and getting groceries. That's not gonna get better any time soon, though.

Soccer Saturday, Week 1

Oh my goodness. Where did the weekend go? Saturday was our first week of soccer games for the fall, and it was a long day! We had games at 10, 2 and 4:30, with a birthday party at 11.

Grant and Graham did fine. Coach Jack did great. The boys were all tired. That's just how it goes at four years old. But they both kicked the ball - yay. G&G are orange #1 and #2.

Ellyson blossomed on the field. She moved up to an older age group (as did Carter). I have no idea who that girl was, at her game. She treated the soccer field like she treats her brothers: completely dominated it. She was hustling, scoring goals (plural, at least three), and blocked at least two goals shot by the other team. She was wearing her game face! She is lime #3.

Carter did well, too. Lots of running in his new age group. We realized he didn't know to "take a knee" when a player is down, so we explained that to him.

Soccer Socks

Seriously, though. These skinny, little legs in soccer socks!

Rude, Lazy Parents

Yesterday, one child called Jack the "rudest dad ever" ... And in the same breath, proceeded to ask for a piggyback ride upstairs.

Then another child demanded to know why I "never do anything for [him]" while I was putting clean laundry in his dresser. Seriously?! It was so ridiculous - especially given the timing of the question.

I am still laughing!

Soccer Nights

Fall soccer season is underway! All four kids are playing this time. Jack is coaching Grant and Graham's team. They practice at the same time as Ellyson. Graham was so ridiculously excited about playing. He still is. My gosh, that kid loves sports. Grant had fun with it, despite finishing last in every drill.

Carter practices on a different night. And as he moved up an age group, his practices will be longer now. Our Saturdays are about to get busy again, with three games each Saturday!

Game Time

Just in case anyone was wondering where our miniature sports team stands on the recent  National Anthem issue, the boys decided to line up like this during the National Anthem for the Falcons game.

Grant is so little ...

Cheaper By the Dozen

Sunday was our 12th anniversary! We celebrated with dinner out, followed by clearance shopping at Target and Walmart. We live a wild life, I tell ya. When you have four kids, birthday and Christmas gift shopping is a year-round activity.

Helen Day Trip

Saturday we made a short visit to Helen, while part of Jack's family was staying there.

I love this picture that Brad took of Ellyson!

Week 1

Last week was week 1 of pre-k. It was exhausting. The students are great. We have 11, and no major behavior or development concerns. But I haven't had to be at work five days a week, in eight years! Even when Carter was a baby, my company had converted to a compressed work week so that I was home on Fridays. I'm used to doing all my cleaning and grocery shopping during the week. Last week, I made no fewer than three trips to the grocery store (with the twins in tow) after leaving school.

Sigh.

But we survived. And this week will be better. It has to be, because we add two nights of soccer into the mix.
