Daddy Day Care is turning out to be a little more tiring for Jack than he'd anticipated. With Carter's new activity level, he is always on the move. Luckily, he's pretty good at finding ways to entertain himself. Unfortunately, he still has to be monitored pretty much the whole time, to make sure he doesn't hurt himself (or Marley). So by the time I get home from work (around 5:45 on Daddy days, since I don't have to make a stop at day care), Jack is exhausted, under-fed and ready to hand off the little man to his mama.
It looks like Daddy Day Care will be wrapping up soon, though. Jack received and accepted a job offer this week. It's about a 40% pay cut for him, but we can't be picky in this market. He will be able to work from home, but Carter will have to be in day care full-time: if he were home with Jack, Jack would only be able to devote a few hours a day to work. However, this position offers more stability and without a commute to and from the office, and considering his old job was five 10-hour days a week, Jack will gain about two hours a day. So hopefully he'll continue running and taking care of some of the day-to-day housework that previously was left to pile up during the week.
Carter will continue on his Tue/Thur "real" day care schedule this week and next, during which time he actually will spend some time in the older baby room, as opposed to the infant room. When he starts back full-time on March 30, he will be in the older baby room.
Maybe this extra time with Daddy in the last few weeks has helped his vocabulary, too. This morning he looked at Jack and said "dada"--then repeated the skill a few more times. So now we've got "mama" and "dada" down pat! Woo-hoo!
